At 323Clay, right up those stairs is the studio space I share with Kim Walsh. Don't tell anyone, but I think it is the best space in the whole studio. I was actually the last studio member to pick a spot and lucky for me no one else wanted to deal with the steps. It is so nice to have a secluded space with a view from my window. I can watch people glazing pots, loading the kiln or cleaning up. Tara Dawley's spot is right below and she is always doing something interesing.
Up the stairs in the stuido is a slab roller, pottery wheel, storage area, worktable, wedging area and sink. I only need to go downstairs to glaze, fire and visit. I have been trying to get organized and make my space a little more interesting. I just recently started using the pegboad. I added a dry erase board for my orders and the little flags for decoration.
One step up and behind the wedging table and sink is Kim's wheel and storage area. Today I worked on mugs and little trays and a big platter. I tried to trim my platter so that I can hang it by wrapping a wire tightly around the foot. I have been wanting to give this a try for a long time but wasn't quite sure how to get the wire taut. Steven Hill shared his technique with me and it looked pretty simple.
Here are my little trays waiting patiently under plastic for me to carve tomorrow. I had to be creative about how to cover them without letting the plastic mess up the slip.
My Thursday morning class at 323Clay on the Independence Square starts on the 8th of September. Check out the 323Clay website or facebook page for more information.
